Medic Concerns - "Nerf"

    Recently I've had a slight concern with medics healing people mid battle. I understand in the sense of someone holding the flag, but at moments it feels as if it adds random advantages where one player will have a boost of full health over the other.

    My "request" to help with this situation is the potential of adding a cool-down on players depending on how recently they've hit someone, and how recently they've been hit.

    - After either 2, 3, or 5 seconds of hitting or being hit by someone, the medic should then be able to heal the person.

    I'm unsure if this would actually help anything, but I hope the idea can help others think up even better possibilities to help CTF become balanced :)

    Hi mal, if I'm not mistaken medic already has a cool down. I believe it's around 15 seconds, I don't really play medic too often so I've never bothered to count out the exact cooldown time, but it's around 15.

    I think mal is talk about medics give people regen mid fight. The cooldown only for full restore, but if you are give someone regen, you can wait for them to take more damage, then give regen again

    So here’s a scenario that may help clear up what may cause confusion for other people too:

    You just got healed by (the best medic) winniethehoe, you now have a 15 second cooldown before SHE can heal you again. Let’s say you go and kill the flag carrier (the really bad) TheZombieKat. So you now have a (let’s go with 5 for now) 5 second cooldown before ANY medic can heal you since you were just in a battle against TheZombieKat.

    The 15 second cooldown is for a single medic, so they can’t spam heal you constantly.

    The “new” cooldown will prevent you from being healed from any medic after 5 (or 2.. or 3) seconds to prevent mid-battle heals that cause unfair advantages. The latest hit towards or from any player would be when the cooldown counts down from 5 (or 3 or 2)

    +1 for sure, and maybe it should be the same cooldown as another medic. For example if (the amazing) winniethehoe heals me and gives me full restore, there could be a 15 second timer where in this 15 second, no medic can heal me. So for me to get healed again I would has to wait 15 seconds until (the amazing) winniethehoe could heal me again and until any medic could heal me

    Did you even read the thread?

    Imo it should be more like if a medic has been hit or hits someone in the past 5 seconds, they are unable to heal people or be healed.

    Man could you imagine just people punching with their fists to not allow heals though, that would be (funny, yes but also) terrible

    Yep, just misunderstood. You're idea could coincide with mal's idea, to also help with medic teaming. ^Something to look into.

    While you're at it, perhaps mention the different timers medics have, if 2 medics are defending a flagholder it's almost impossible to recover with a low damage dealing class or without instakill (archer / assassin / even pyro)

    -1 because you called me bad.

    It would be really nice to prevent stuff like that, but my issue is that I see too many people abusing it/trolling with it. Teams could have a ninja whose job is to hit the flag carrier every few seconds so the medic can't heal them. It would be annoying but effective.

    I also agree though, that was the only thing I was worried about, but in contrast, that ninja only has as long as their invisibility powder can handle, and if they repeatedly hit the flag carrier, their timer resets, so an opposing team medic can’t give it back until that timer is up

    This idea has similar intentions but with different execution -
    Creds to @Miskey for the idea to basically remove the full restore during and a bit before/after combat while to buff the regen level/rate for when the medic does hit anybody in combat

    Players would gain a few more hearts and seconds of "resistance" from the regen but this temporary health pool would definitely be less than 3-5 restored steak/health pots, in the end, still making it fair for everyone

    This is a good idea! however, yes medic already has a cool down, but I think when it comes to medics and teaming with someone who is going to the flag or simply in battle- its a good tactical sense to be able to have a medic heal you when you do start to get low on health during the fight. And you wont be able to hit them again for another 15 seconds to be healed. Its not that big of an advantage, but the idea is pretty good to equalize it a little more.

    The biggest problem I see here is differentiating between medic in stalemates and medic in offensive pushes/ when a flag holder has just gotten out, especially in competitive. I think this idea is really cool for stalemates, the people protecting the flag carrier have to zone away the recovery or kill them, rather than the flag carrier just sitting there tanking damage because the medic can spam heal them, but I see problems occuring when the flag has just been stolen- if a soldier has just gotten out it is common to see 4-5 players on recovery, and I think it would make capping insanely harder to pull off if the flag carrier had to get out of range of all the ninjas for a few seconds and stand there waiting for a heal. I think this would destroy heavy/chemist capping as it isn't difficult to keep up with them.

    Imo, the medic healing mechanic is too strong in a stalemate, but has reasonable counterplay outside of that.

    I'm more in favor of my medic idea (absolutely no bias I promise). I don't like this as much for the reasons keel and zombiekat mentioned. My medic idea nerfs the regen down one level, and instead of restoring all steak, it only restores one steak, with a cooldown of 5 seconds. I think it gives a good balance since it's no longer an insta heal but more of a gradual one.

    5 seconds seems quite long, however your rework does sound appealing. Could you explain the whole system again or is there a thread you once posted on it?

    I like this idea a lot, obviously the numbers could easily be tweaked but I think there is real promise. Im assuming that the steak is given to the player instantly? It doesnt make much sense to me to have to wait to be full health just to receive one steak. Maybe chemist could receive 2 heal pots and every other non-steak class could receive regen at the same level as current?

    This idea sounds interesting, and it's definitely with a good basis (coming from a medic main xd) but I would also like to read a full thread if there is one.

    I pretty much 100% agree with what @Keelb00 said. I wished rules and stuff changed in stalemates honestly. I know it wouldn't happen ever but if class limits and cooldowns changed in stalemates things could get a lot more interesting. I've also thought of if the longer the banner was not at its post, the slower regen on the carrier would be(or the more flag poison they'll take). There are probably issues with the ideas though. However, with what he is saying about a flag carrier just stealing and trying to get across the map, he is absolutely right that the complete restore isnt op in a lot of the circumstances, especially since medics are almost always targetted by 1-3 people in matches, it isn't like it's always the easiest thing getting a heal when you're against people who know what they're doing. (TLDR imo yes medic in stalemates should be different from medic in general)
