    Question

aefrog was accepted as ctf jmod even though he averages less than 10 posts a year Screen Shot 2018-06-18 at 4.08.53 PM.png
and did not comment on anything in the ctf section (or anywhere else) for over 7 months
    Screen Shot 2018-06-18 at 4.08.53 PM.png
and didn't start actively posting anything until after applying for mod

This thread isn't meant to attack aefrog and isn't even about aefrog. But it is more about how applications are handled and what is expected of applicants when they're applying. Several questions in particular...

If aefrog is applying for CTF but actually wants to moderate and work on HG why wasn't he handpicked as HG jmod? He said on his app that if HG was open he'd be active there.

    Screen Shot 2018-06-18 at 4.17.48 PM.png

Obviously it makes no sense to reopen HG apps for one dude. Why not handpick? This would also render the forum activity point moot (HG forums are the only thing more dead than HG in game)

Also the whole thing about "I'm applying for this server but not really" is unappealing.

At what point do you say "in game and other activity balances out zero forum activity"? And if you can't define that point, then what is the point in having forum activity as a requirement? That is, it's always been ambiguous exactly how active you should be on the forums. And considering that the forums are dead right now, it's even harder to ask someone who is already inactive to step it up a bit.

Is it reasonable to accept someone only if they meet every requirement or if they can benefit the server in some way? In other words, what if anyone who applied could be accepted if they could show that they were either very active in game or in game & forums but not necessarily both. This would be similar to how someone applying for dev doesn't need to be active on the forums or that active in game as long as they can provide a service to reliably update Brawl's servers

    Screen Shot 2018-06-18 at 4.21.37 PM.png

A lot of the work that goes into the server comes from things done in game, which (as I understand it) is why aefrog was accepted. This could also avoid stupid instances where someone like @Unifier is denied over ts inactivity

And why is it still taking forever to accept or deny applications? Aefrog's in particular took over a month to be accepted, as did @0racle's. You encourage people to apply but even when they do it takes 2 weeks at a minimum and over 2 months at most. This isn't a FBI investigation, it's some dude applying for a gay tag and /kick and /mute. ???

Clarity on this would be greatly appreciated.

there are requirements in place for a reason. activity (in all areas) shows that the applicant is dedicated to the server and actually plans on helping it out.

if requirements weren't in place and they only accepted people that could be "beneficial at the moment", who's to say that applicant wouldn't have a change of heart? the applicant could be a great builder but could also be really immature, and nobody would know unless he showed that in his application.

the whole application system in itself is busted. applications aren't dealt with often enough, and that overall hurts the server.

I'm not talking about being "beneficial at the moment". I'm saying if you are/have been really active in game (but not on forums - like aefrog) it's still beneficial for brawl to accept you as long as the guidelines are clear.

Streamlining requirements could help get apps dealt with quicker. Less sh*t to consider like "have you made a forum post in the last 2 weeks" or "your ts activity isn't high enough" or some other nonsense.

Sure but I'm not talking about omitting or lowering maturity requirements. Being able to conduct yourself in a remotely civil manner on a consistent basis is not something that will or ever should change. All I'm suggesting is that as long as someone is either doing something or can do something that benefits the server Brawl should take advantage of that, even if they're not active in all areas

There are staff being added that aren't active on the forums or are very little actvity, and some seem unqualified for their role (not gonna call kids out).

First off, HG forums aren't as dead as the game, and please stop posting stuff like that, thank you.

Now that that's out of the way, personally I think experience and maturity outrank most anything when it comes to moderator applications, and especially for HG, experience is what counts. You can't make good suggestions if you've only ever played 20 or 30 games, and I mean that (@DeadRhos hehe). I know that aefrogdog has played a lot of HG (and plays a lot of CTF) in the past, but IMO you do need to have played on BrawlHG quite a bit to understand the differences between say MCPvPHG, MunchyHG,SimpleHG and whatever other HG servers you can name or think of (stats aren't loading for me so I'm having to go on this based on memory, which may be wrong, please don't crucify).

    Just my salt tho

I'm completely lost when it comes to aefrogdog being accepted...
Yes they are a good guy, but does that cancel out requirements that are necessary for everyone?
Many good applicants were denied for lack of forum activity or myself, for teamspeak activity.
I've talked about this with various mods and I must admit that almost everything I heard sounded like something you don't need staff for.
Especially since we are talking about hg here, he's been accepted as a ctf jmod and he would be switching over to hg once it would be up again..?
What guarantee do we have that hg will be revived again? All of these plans, of which I know nothing I just heard about some plans to revive hg, will they guarantee that hg comes back to life like in the old days? What if that's not the case? Looking at the votes, 41 players voted yes, with a 28 players voting no, with 23 of them being active in the ctf team scene This versus 30 votes for yes from ctf scene players, including a yes from aefrogdog himself and a slightly biased group of people from Anni + an Anni alt, leaving the total of 'unbiased' votes at 17.

Of all the talks I had with mods the only thing I remembered is that he was working on plugins and as a staff he could communicate more directly with those in charge. Is this along with the plugins the reason for overlooking the forum activity? I think many of the people who voted no don't have answers to their questions and I think we'd like them soon.

I've watched my old pal Proudy closely, as I predicted him to be accepted. I even visited this forums regulary just to congratulate him when he's accepted. Obviously he got denied though and at this point I'm just wondering why. He was a randy back in the days, but changed a lot.
Oh and he's active on the forums, don't know if that matters nowadays though.

Look at it this way: should we reject someone who does loads of great work for Brawl, on the basis that they're sub-par in an area that's largely irrelevant to what they're doing?

I was accepted as a Build mod in the past despite non-existent TS activity and 0 knowledge of hacks. I like to think I did a pretty good job regardless, and I'm happy that I was given a chance.

So forum activity is largely irrelevant, or are you just speaking in general?

TS activity isn't that much of a requirement now since not many people use it, but forum activity is something important, as I thought candidates for staff were people sho contributed their ideas and opinions on the forums.

Just in general. Everything's equally important, but if you excel in one area then we'll want you to be on board regardless of how you're doing elsewhere.

I mean, really excel though. Be a coding god, or make loads of great suggestions, or help out a ton in-game. It's a rare situation so I understand the frustration, but I think it's fair.

I also want to add that being able to code holds a lot of weight, especially if you're familiar with the gamemode, since there's very few people in that position.

I've been informed aefrogdog does not know how to code, nor has he contributed to the forums nor ingame. What exactly is the main reason behind him being accepted?
