Greetings and salutations everyone! Today I present a pretty self-explanatory idea which consists of a “flag poison timer”.

As we all know, flag poison has the ability to break a player’s jump momentum, mid-jump. It can be very inconvenient when flag poison comes out of nowhere right as you jump over the void, or let chasing enemies finally catch up to you from that one gruesome and annoying tick of damage.

With a displayable timer (somewhere), it will be easier for carriers to know when they will experience flag poison so they can be more cautious when the time nears. Anyways, if this idea was brought up before and it was shut down, feel free to let me know. Maybe experienced players are supposed to know when the tick happens and they pay attention to the game timer?

Also, I posted an idea in the CTF community discord but I don’t know if it was taken in consideration of the staff team, nor was there a lot of feedback on it so I’ll say it again.
Assassin should have a different styled glass pane for their assassinate compared to the speed boost. It will be easier for medics to know when to restore assassinate, and not restore the speed boost, which would be a waste of 15 seconds if they already have assassinate up. Maybe give the assassinate a red glass pane whenever the ability is still on cool down. It’s just more convenient.

Anyways, that’s it for now. Happy CTFing!

I like this idea. Flag poison is consistent, so it is possible to keep track of when it will occur. However, it is very easy to lose track of that when your primary focus is on the game itself. Since I play almost strictly offense I can say that there have been times where the flag poisoning, as you said, has broken my momentum and allowed enemy players to catch up or caused me to fall into the void. I am definitely in favor of adding this into the game in some way.

In regards to your Assassin tweak, I think it would not make a huge difference if the glass was changed. Assassin has a pretty short lifespan in general and even if the Assassin already has assassinate, a restoration of the speed boost would not be a complete loss. I do not mind this change and, if it was implemented, I would see no issue with it, but I do not think it would make a significant change to what we have right now.

These ideas are just for sheer convenience and will not make a huge impactful gameplay difference... I think. The ideas are mostly for convenience. However, there are a few instances where having a discoloration to the assassinate cooldown, or having a flag poison timer that can create the slightest opportunity of viability and strategy.

With that being said, thanks for your time and feedback!

Hello, I like the idea of there being a timer. It would help especially with winding with elf in my case. However, I would prefer there not to be a timer. I would prefer no timer as mastering movement with the timing of the flag poison (using the timer) is a skill. Its a minor skill that can seperate great offence players to offenders that are decent.

It has been a long time that we've not seen an idea to change how the flag poison is, so it's nice to see someone who is bringing up an idea about that. However, I think that showing the timer might cause some problems. Every flag carrier will be able to just drop the flag to not take the poison and pick up the flag back right after. I imagine this in casual CTF when there is no medic with you. So the player will be able to avoid the damage, which I don't think it is what we want. Also, at the moment, the mechanic of the flag poison is helping recovery because a flag carrier can take the flag poison without knowing the timer, so it is making the flag carrier more vulnerable. CTF already has a problem because of the long stalemates, so I don't think we should facilitate the job of the flag carrier by showing the timer. I know it is not a big difference, but I like the way the flag poison is right now, and I like how it is making the flag carrier more vulnerable, without doing too much damage to the flag carrier. Showing the timer will nerf the flag poison itself, which I don't think it is a good idea. I understand that sometimes the flag poison can be inconvenient in some situations, but for me it's a good part of the game.

By doing that, I really think it would nerf the assassin class. A lot of assassins main are using that glass pane to confuse their enemy, which I think is a good playstyle. To know if the assassin has all their powders or not, a medic can always ask in the chat if the assassin needs a restore. Also, the assassin can tell the medic to wait up using the drop key to indicate that they need a restore. So I don't think the glass pane should be changed.

Showing the flag poison timer is a good idea because it would help the flag carrier against that annoying poison but I think that it isn't really necessary as you can count the timer by yourself, which adds more difficulty and skill in capturing the flag. However, what I would like to be fixed is the fact that the flag poison timer after you steal / pick up the flag is random (I think the reason for that is that the poison is permanent and stays even when nobody has the flag). It can be 1 second or like 15 seconds, which I find a bit unfair so in my opinion the timer should start right when you steal the flag.
For the assassin change it isn't needed in my opinion but why not.

Yes, I understand your point in how you can negate damage from dropping the flag and then picking it back up, but in competitive gameplay, it'd be way different. If you think it makes the carrier more vulnerable, how about making the timer public for all to see, enemies and allies. This way, enemies can think their options when the flag poison nears and maybe they will be rewarded for making the right decisions. In my opinion, flag poison isn't really the best choice of crippling the flag carrier. The last "flag poison" test was when the hearts would gradually decrease, and I actually really liked the idea.

At first, when I presented this idea, I just thought of how the medics just swing their swords randomly (on defense) and restore everyone, not thinking if the assassin has their assassinate up. I didn't take into consideration of how some assassins play, with confusing the enemy with having an assassinate on cooldown. I think keeping the playstyles of assassins would be more crucial than being able to maximize the viability of assassinate.

I have actually experienced this whenever I play and it is very inconsistent. I never thought about it until you mentioned this and I agree it should be fixed.

I agree it could counter the 'dropping flag' problem. I'm personally really fine about how the flag poison is at the moment, not knowing the timer of the tick never annoyed me.

We discussed this and came to the conclusion that the problem of the motion break through flag poison is too minor to justify a separate timer just for the poison ticks. I do like the idea of the colored glass panes as placeholders (I'd prefer grey or dark grey instead of white to blend in better with the hotbar), but unfortunately the code broke severely in the past when attempting to use colored ones due to their ID appendix. Maybe for the future!

I would appreciate it if there were a poison timer (at least new players would know why they're taking DaMAge like sometimes they actually have no idea) displayable timers should also be added to stuff like medic webs or assassinate, so u know roughly when it will be available for use. I know, it might not be that useful, but small details like that would help to provide that teensy bit of strategy and outplay potential in the game rather than me spamming right click until a Web comes back up :frowning:

And yes a new glass pane for assassinate compared to speed boost would be perfect. Especially in casual matches, sometimes u don't know whether u need to restore the assassin or not, and it would help communicate the need for a medic to restore your assassinate.

    Also hi @Exeadra c:

2 opposite opinions on the idea so I’ll just give more feedback....
In the game League of Legends (or any MOBA game) there contains “status effects” that essentially are circles with numbers inside of them that represent any type of cool-down the character has. Whether it’s a de-buff, attack cool-down, or ability, the screen shows it all. Just food for thought.

And yea, it’d be useful if anything regenerable has a displayable cool-down. Not sure why medic doesn’t have mana that shows web regeneration, but okay.

Woah dude MOBAS?! MOBAs are pretty kewl man. I don't even know whether my opinion is relevant lol. Yea it would be slightly useful but dunno whether u can add tiny little windows in Minecraft to show status effects (otherwise u can have a little timer thing/text like the text when someone steals a flag like the one above your item bar)

I think Nohox means it's not really that big of a deal, and even though it would be a nice addition for aesthetic and mildly useful purposes, it's not exactly at the top of their priority list for the game.

That would be sick but sadly there isn't anything in Minecraft resembling such an effect :slight_frown:
